How to experience happiness from within? How can we be happy irrespective of what happens around us? These are questions that have intrigued mankind since forever. All of us are influenced by several internal and external factors around us. These play a huge role in our outlook towards life. However, there are some people who manage to stay positive and focused while others get derailed with the slightest emotional upheaval. What makes these people different from the rest? Read on to find out.
There are three very powerful perspectives that will help you attain happiness.
- Your genes.
- Your circumstances.
- Your habits.
1- Your Genes:
You don’t have much control over your genes. Research conducted on twins has found that our genes contribute to about 50% of our reactions, emotions, and stimuli to external factors. 50% of our baseline of happiness is therefore, dependent on our genes, and comes from who our parents are and what our genes are. These cannot be controlled. The remaining 50% though, can be controlled. If we learn what to do and how to respond, we can bring about drastic changes in our outlook towards life.
2- Your Circumstances:
Many times, people become enslaved by their circumstances. They feel victimized. They feel that they are unhappy because they did not have the same opportunities as others. Abuse, poverty, bad marriages or toxic relationships, whatever it may be, people immediately tend to blame it on their circumstances. However, research says that circumstances contribute to only 10% of your happiness. There are people who find themselves in horrible circumstances but do not allow these external circumstances to dictate their state of happiness. That’s because they take control and change the way they view things. They change the way they behave. This brings so much more stability, happiness, and success in their lives.
3- Your Habits:
Now, your habits are where you have 100% control over. You can learn to cultivate and establish new habits, and break free from old ones, in order to transform your life and in turn, your circumstances and your state of mind. It’s easy to break free from recurring patterns and learn new ones. You can choose to be more analytical when facing an unpleasant situation instead of being reactionary. Cultivating new habits has a direct impact on your quality of life and your state of happiness. You can be content even when facing the worst form of adversities.
Even if you have been conditioned into reacting a certain way to certain situations right from childhood, you can change and learn to develop powerful habits that will give meaning to your life. You cannot control your genes or the circumstances you find yourself in, but you can control your habits and reactions to these situations that will give you peace and serenity.
If you want to learn how to develop these habits, have the right mindset and learn two very important equations about being happy, join the Mindful Hearts Academy, where I conduct live sessions with Q&A’s to not only teach you about these techniques but help clear your doubts, and help you inculcate what you learn in your day-to-day life with immediate effect. These sessions will completely transform your perspective, your personality and your life.
Many times, we look at happiness as something that is trivial. We assume that it is a side product you experience after you achieve things. Happiness is actually vital and non-negotiable. And when you have happiness and contentment, you can be a true worshiper of Allah. When you attain this rhythm, it will show on your face. It will show in your behavior.
Let us learn how to be our best and develop characteristics that will allow us to live a life in a way that is pleasing to Allah – to live a life with meaning and higher purpose inshaAllah. You don’t have to be miserable. You don’t have to be stuck and you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to support you and help you.
